Line 2 tram expected to be finished in 2017!
At a surprise press conference yesterday, Nice’s Mayor Christian Estrosi announced that the Line 2 Tramway route will now finish at Place Massena and is expected to be finished by 2017. Originally going from the Airport to the Port, the Line 2 is getting a bit of a trim and will finish close to Jean Médecin instead of the port, where it will connect with Line 1. Cost and expediency are the reasons for the route-chop; the financial crisis has caused the Government to pull back on some of its finding commitments, and this new shortened route will allow the East-West tramway Line 2 to be finished in 4 years which is slightly earlier than planned.
The mayor insists that the Port extension will not be forgotten, however, and will come a couple of years later, towards 2019, so those with property in Nice port will just have to wait a teensy bit longer for the tramway to open there! Currently it’s just a short walk to the port from the Line 1 stop already in operation in the beautiful Place Garibaldi.
Great news for those of you that have property close to the promenade and going out to Nice West! The new tramway will also make the centre of Nice much more easily accessible from the airport, confirming the city as a superb destination to buy a French Riviera holiday apartment or villa!
