Cannes Film Festival 2014

It's the biggest event in the Cannes’ calendar! The Cannes Film Festival kicked off on Wednesday night with the much-anticipated world premiere of Grace of Monaco and for the next eleven days the town will be teeming with actors, producers, critics, journalists and tourists.

The first film festival in Cannes was first held in 1946 and ever since has been considered one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, with dozens of films screened and showcased over the period. There are various competitive and non-competitive categories, but the spotlight is on the twenty films in competition for the prestigious ‘Palme d’Or’, the most important prize that the festival has to offer.

Even if you’re not one of the lucky few invited to the festival itself, there is plenty to do during the festival period! Every evening there is a free open air cinema – you just need to turn up! There are also free film screenings at the four cinemas in Cannes; you just need to pop into the Cannes Cinephiles tent on the Pantiero to grab a free ticket.

It’s also a great opportunity for property owners to profit from the many people looking for accommodation in Cannes this week! For people not using their apartment, it’s the ideal time to earn some extra income from letting their Cannes or Nice property to some of the many people who descend on the French Riviera during the festival period. Cannes is a superb spot to purchase a buy to let investment because it's not only film festival that can bring in the money for property owner but also other festivals throughout the year such as Mipim.
