First five things to do in Nice

1)      The Promenade des Anglais. The palm-fringed promenade was built by the English community in 1833 and it’s the perfect place for an evening stroll and to enjoy the stunning sunsets across the sea. The promenade is lined with famous hotels, including the Negresco, with its magnificent pink dome and neon sign. It’s also a popular place for rollerblading and skateboarding, and if you fancy a go you can rent your own equipment from Rollerstation nearby! You could also try the Segway – a two wheeled electric vehicle which is currently gaining popularity in Nice!

2)      The Old Town. Probably the liveliest part of Nice, the Old Town is packed with visitors from morning till night. In the mornings, the Cours Saleya hosts its famous flower market and the well-known fruit and vegetable market. On Monday there’s also the antique market! In the evening, the many restaurants and bars come alive – you’ll never get bored with the vast choice on offer.

3)      The Parc du Château. The old 12th century castle was destroyed long ago and only the Tour Bellanda remains, but there’s now a park on the site which offers superb views over Nice, plus children’s play equipment and a viewing platform. It’s a great place for picnics.

4)      The Port. It’s worth wandering over to the port just to look at the gleaming rows of luxury yachts moored there. It’s also a neighbourhood with a lively atmosphere, full of trendy bars and cafés.

5)      Place Masséna and Jean-Médécin. Place Masséna is the main square of the city. It’s notable for the seven statues representing the continents, mounted on columns in the square, which light up at night. Concerts are often held outside in the summer months. Jean-Médécin is Nice’s main shopping street, which leads off Place Masséna to the town centre and the main shopping centre, Nice Etoile.
