Sport in Nice

No one thinking of buying property in Nice could have failed to notice all the sports that have taken place in the city over the past week. Whether you’ve already bought your property here or are thinking about moving to Nice, here is all you need to know about the sporting events and activities in Nice:

Let’s start with the big one: the Tour de France came to Nice yesterday for Stage 4: the time trial. As such, it was possible to watch the competitors throughout the day as they raced through the streets and along the Promenade. If you’re into cycling this was an event not to be missed!

Last weekend saw the annual Ironman competition take place with hundreds of people swimming, cycling and running in an attempt to be the biggest masochist of them all. The race started and ended on the Promenade and it was astounding to see them cross the finish line after all that effort! Truly inspiring stuff.

It’s not all about watching other people exercise though: there are many sporting activities you can do in Nice including the standard football, golf and tennis along with scuba diving, sailing and horse riding! If you’ve been to the beaches (which is really the first thing you should do once you’ve bought your property in Nice!) then you will have seen the various water sports on offer. The Club Nautique de Nice is the place to go for sailing, rowing and wind-surfing and there are companies on the beach which offer a really unique form of entertainment: hang gliding while being towed by a speed boat! If you love a thrill, then this is the activity for you! Keep an eye out for the big pink sails the next time you’re at the beach.

There are of course clubs for each and every sport you can think of, particularly if you practise your chosen sport to a high level. There are very nice golf courses nearby for golf enthusiasts (Royal Mougins and Golf Country Club de Cannes) and equestrian lovers can visit any one of the three stables in Nice to take part in rides up into the mountains and tennis players can enjoy the superb courts the Nice Lawn Tennis Club provides.

For those who prefer to run, you certainly won’t be alone as at any one time you will see several runners taking a jog along the Promenade or to the city’s beauty spots. For race seekers there is the annual January Prom’Classic, a 10k route along the city’s seaside, with other 5000 people taking place each year or the very fast half marathon course in April.

With all this to offer, Nice really is the relaxing yet active haven you’d want when searching for property on the French Riviera.
