What's On in winter in Cannes?

October

In October, the MIPCOM is held in Cannes. This annual get together allows the entertainment industry to network, do business and buy and sell hit TV shows to other countries. It attracts many famous personalities, so you never know who you might see outside the Palais des Festivals!

The Tax Free World Exhibition also takes over the Palais des Festivals for five days mid month. This event brings together the industry’s most prestigious luxury brands and attracts thousands of key buyers, airport authorities, agents, distributors and journalists worldwide.

 

November

Early November sees the Nice-Cannes Marathon take place. Those brave enough to take part complete a scenic but demanding 42km course, which starts on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice and finishes on the Croisette in Cannes.

Also in November is the Cannes Festival de Danse. Different companies from the world over come together in Cannes to perform to an audience of dance-lovers and the choreographers base their works on a variety of themes.

The MAPIC: International Market for Retail Real Estate is the benchmark event for the world’s retail real estate professionals and comes to the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in November for three days. December

There is no shortage of festivities on the French Riviera at Christmas, despite it being best known as a summer destination. Most towns and villages have their own Christmas market throughout the month of December; these are the perfect setting to enjoy mulled wine or fresh crêpes smothered in Nutella.

If you visit Cannes from late November to early January, you will see colourful Christmas lights decorating the city, creating a beautiful, picturesque setting. Every year, Christmas markets are held at the harbour and in the Old Town.

In terms of Congresses in Cannes in December, the International Luxury Travel Market takes place for three days at the Palais des Festivals. The ILTM is the only global trade event dedicated to enabling specialist luxury travel buyers to meet with the world’s leading luxury travel suppliers, gathering together delegates from around 52 countries.

 

January

The start of January and Epiphany marks the end of the festive season but do not fear as it also marks the period of the year when galettes des rois are traditionally indulged in!

The Midem Music Festival in Cannes is held in January, a platform which introduces new artists to the European market. Continuing with the music theme, the NRJ Music Awards attract more established acts to the Croisette. Cannes is also home to a shopping festival in January, where big names show off their new collections and where you can buy designer labels at discount prices. The winter sales in the area run from mid-January to mid-February.

February

February is another very exciting month on the Cote d’Azur as thousands of visitors flock here for the annual festivals. One of the highlights of the Niçois calendar, the Nice Carnival, is held this month. Along with the Brazilian and Venetian Carnivals, this is one of the world’s major carnival events and consists of three weeks of parades, music, dance, street theatre, fireworks and general celebrations! The carnival processions comprise 20 floats and over 1,000 musicians and dancers from across the world.

 

March

March sees the annual Festival des Jeux come to Cannes. All lovers of games, be they traditional games, board games, video games, card games or anything else, are invited to discover more about this world in one of the biggest events of its kind! Here you can meet creators, illustrators and editors and there are many tournaments and demonstrations that you can take part in.

The Cannes Shopping Festival also takes place in March. Fashion shows and catwalks take place across Cannes, on the beaches, on the Croisette and in the luxury boutiques. Wedding shows, vintage fashion and haut couture are all part of this very fashionable week!! Every night, you can also climb the steps of the Palais des Festivals and get yourself snapped by the waiting photographers to get a taste of the ‘paparazzi experience’!

Also in March is the MIPIM event. Held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès and lasting five days, this event is a Real Estate international trade show. 18,000 delegates from over 2000 companies come together and gather information about new building projects and initiate deals and partnerships. It is a great market to network, get knowledge of the industry and set up partnerships.
