The Michelin star chef, Christian Plumail, has decided to close his restaurant, with the last day of service taking place on the 18th September, according to the Nice Matin.  The restaurant opened in 1995; born and bred in Nice, Plumail says that he has always privileged using local ingredients and has been proud of his recipes inspired by Nicois cuisine. But over the years, he has lost his taste for the restaurant business. Today, he is fed up with it; he is tired, he says, of spending 90% of his time responding to emails or scrutinizing Trip advisor, hence his decision to finally close his restaurant.

However, he is not planning to entirely give up his career as a chef. He is instead starting a new style of dining: the home restaurant, the only one of its kind in Nice. Keeping the name of ‘L’univers’, he will welcome a maximum of 8-10 guests two or three times per week to the apartment above the restaurant. The transformation will be completed by the 15th December at the latest. Is Plumail looking forward to this reincarnation? He says: ‘It will be very exclusive, but not elitist, open to everyone…I will communicate by internet, I will choose my guests. I want to work with enthusiasm, without any rules. Finally, he says ‘I have always wanted to cook for people’. With his unique concept and his exceptional reputation, there’s no doubt that his new table will be a success.
